Japan 2026 - Janet Bortz

Dear Friends and Family,

In March 2026, I have the opportunity to join a mission team traveling to Japan through Oak Pointe Church. Our team will engage in outreach by sharing the gospel and encouraging individuals who previously participated in Oak Pointe’s English as a Second Language (ESL) program.

I have served in Oak Pointe’s ESL ministry for many years and have witnessed students grow both in their English skills and in their faith in Jesus Christ. Over time, many former ESL students have returned to Japan, where they often face challenges in finding Christian community. This is not surprising, as only about 1% of the Japanese population identifies as Christian. Having stepped away from traditional religious practices such as Shintoism or Buddhism, these believers can experience isolation. With few churches and limited fellowship, it can be difficult for young Christians to thrive in their faith.

In partnership with Christ Bible Institute (CBI) and local churches, our team will seek to encourage Japanese believers and reach others through intentional gatherings and outreach events.
